The number of mobile users increases five- to sevenfold and in the most popular areas even to over tenfold in the Balaton region during the summer season. At this time of the year, more than 10% of Hungary’s nationwide mobile traffic is generated in this region which makes the Lake Balaton and its vicinity an area of special importance in terms of not only tourism but also telecommunications. Telenor has installed 13 new base stations and has aggregated spectrum to enhance customer experience at the lake.

Dr. Győző Drozdy wins Puskás Tivadar Award
Dr. Győző Drozdy, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Telenor Hungary, has been granted the Puskás Tivadar Award, one of the most prestigious accolades of the Hungarian telecommunications industry. During the three decades of his career, he played a key role in launching Hungary’s first GSM service, supported all stages of industry evolution and is an active contributor to the ongoing implementation of 5G mobile networks.

Two applications to be implemented in support of small communities
Be it a stage, a jetty, a playground or a dog obstacle course, a common space can mean a lot to a community whose members share the same hobby, the same sport or support the same good cause. Telenor and Hello Wood, a team of artists known for their unique wooden structures and installations, are announcing an application programme for small communities titled “Együtt/tér” (Together/Space) to facilitate the implementation of wooden community spaces.

Telenor completes Hungary’s first public video call using a 5G smartphone
Telenor Hungary launched its 5G mobile test network in Győr on 15 May. The site of the system installed at Széchenyi István University and downtown Győr was selected not only to run the operator’s own tests but also to provide engineering students with access to the latest mobile network technology as a Hungary-first initiative that may give a momentum to local 5G research and development. The test network will also bring the technology of the future closer to local businesses of the region.
Hégető Honorka awards presented
Main award goes to 24.hu editorial staff; György Baló is granted posthumous award for his life’s work
Since 2003, the Hégető Honorka award has recognized the efforts of journalists and creators of photos or videos responding to important social issues and causes. This year, the six winners included films made by 24.hu, RTL Klub, Index.hu, Északi Támpont Egyesület and Háttér Társaság. The late György Baló, President of the award programme’s jury from the outset, was granted a posthumous award.
