Yettel extends deadline for applications to Hégető Honorka Award

Applications are accepted until 22 September

In 2024 again, an award program is launched for editorial offices and journalists who bring to light social issues of public importance. The award established in 2003 will be granted for the 20th time this year, and once again applications are invited for videos, photos or photo series that present social issues and possible solutions. This year, the jury will also award works in a new category: the best first applicant. The extended deadline is 22 September.

Over the past few years, we have faced a number of challenges that have had a serious impact on society as a whole. In 2020 and 2021, millions of people’s lives were dominated by the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences, in 2022, the war in neighbouring Ukraine and then in 2023 the war in Israel was the main theme. The plight of the vulnerable, serious environmental problems, inflation, the state of healthcare, education and child protection are also major issues in the national and international public discourse.

In 2024, the award program is open to works (videos, individual photos, or photo series – up to 10 images) published online or aired on television between 1 September 2023 and 22 September 2024.

Extended deadline for submitting applications: 22 September 2024

This year’s jury is chaired by Ildikó Enyedi, Balázs Béla Award-winning film director, screenwriter and artist of merit. Other jury members include Antónia Mészáros, Executive Director of UNICEF Hungary, and Balázs Weyer, journalist. Photos will be evaluated by Éva Keleti, Kossuth and Balázs Béla Award-winning photographer.

This year, the jury will also select a winner in a new category: the award for the best first entry will go to a creator who has not previously applied for the Hégető Award.

Yettel has been a long-standing sponsor of the Hégető Honorka Foundation and the Hégető Honorka Award Program. This year it is again offering a special award to a selected project. In addition to recognising the creator of the winning video, the mobile operator also supports the cause that the entry had brought to light, raising awareness of the irreplaceable work of journalists.

The Hégető Award was established in 2003 in memory of the life work of Honorka Hégető, a reporter for RTL who died young in a car accident. Honorka prepared reports about the life of disadvantaged people, for which she was awarded the Tolerance Award in 1999.
