Yettel Continues to Have the Fastest Mobile Network in Hungary

The network proved its worth at the biggest summer events: interesting data from the Sziget Festival and the Balaton Crossing

Yettel remains Hungary’s fastest mobile network, based on Ookla data and nationwide speed tests by szelessav.net. Just like in the second half of last year, Yettel delivered Hungary’s fastest mobile internet in the first half of this year, according to Ookla Speedtest Intelligence. The operator meets the growing demand of everyday life and special events with a fast, reliable and stable network. This can be confirmed firsthand by more than 10,000 participants of the Balaton Crossing and the 416,000 visitors of the Sziget Festival.

Based on 435,780 independent measurements recorded in Ookla’s Speedtest app, Yettel’s mobile network achieved the best performance in Hungary during the first half of 2025. Yettel received the Speedtest Awards with a speed score of 74.35, backed by an average download speed of 228.5 Mbps and an average upload speed of 31.29 Mbps. This result confirms that Yettel’s network provided the fastest mobile internet access in Hungary during the period under review.

Since 2020, Yettel has invested nearly HUF 100 billion in network development and now offers high-speed 5G services at over a thousand base stations across the country, available to all customers at no extra cost. Based on Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the first half of 2025, as well as nationwide average speed measurements from szelessav.net*, Yettel’s mobile network is currently the fastest in Hungary.

This is how people used their phones at Sziget

Yettel’s network was again heavily used by Sziget Festival visitors. In terms of voice calls, the busiest day was the second day (August 7), when Nelly Furtado and Shawn Mendes performed on the Main Stage. On this Thursday, festival-goers made nearly 20% more calls than the daily average traffic of the festival. Data traffic was more balanced, with Thursday also being the busiest day. On that day, visitors used nearly 10% more data than the daily average, while on Sunday (August 10), the day of Post Malone’s performance, traffic was over 8% higher than the daily average.

The popularity of Yettel’s 5G network is also clearly visible from the traffic data at Sziget. The total data traffic was roughly in line with last year’s festival, but an increasing share of it is now carried over the 5G network. On average, data downloaded over 5G was 15% higher than in 2024, while data uploaded over 5G exceeded last year’s figures by more than 35%.

Yettel takes special care to ensure that the tens of thousands of festival-goers can use their phones without any issues every day whether to stay in touch, access information, or share experiences. A reliable network is essential for live-streaming concert moments or sharing videos and photos with friends. This year, the operator delivered an outstanding network experience tailored to the needs of a medium-sized county seat: the network capacity was reinforced across 31 sectors at 20 additional locations at Sziget. Working with its network infrastructure partner CETIN Hungary and a team of around 30 experts, the operator spent nearly two months preparing to ensure visitors could rely on a fast, stable and reliable network throughout the festival.

Speed at Lake Balaton

To meet growing traffic demands, Yettel continuously expands and develops its network across the country. The same applies around Lake Balaton, where its ultra-fast 5G service is available at numerous holiday destinations. With more than ten thousand people taking part in the 43rd LIDL Balaton Crossing, the heightened activity was also reflected on Yettel’s network. On the day of the event, call, SMS, and data traffic increased significantly both at the start in Révfülöp and at the finish in Balatonboglár compared to the previous Saturday. At the start, for example, 70% more calls and two and a half times longer conversations were recorded than on an average day. The operator increased mobile network capacity to ensure that every participant could easily stay in touch with their loved ones.

In order to take full advantage of the 5G network, it is also important to have the right handset. Yettel offers customers a wide range of 5G-capable models to choose from. In many towns and villages, Yettel’s 5G-based home internet service, Yettel OtthonNet, is also available. It can be set up quickly and easily without expert assistance, providing a reliable broadband connection for the entire household.
