Warning: the summer season is prime time for online fraudsters

Nearly 200,000 people have already activated an effective solution to protect against online threats

Internet fraudsters, the virtual pickpockets of our time, never give up. There’s hardly any person in Hungary who hasn’t experienced a scam attempt via email, SMS or phone call in their immediate environment. The methods usually take advantage of people’s gullibility and lack of attention, so the summer period can make the population even more vulnerable to online threats. But there is a solution.

“Your parcel has arrived”, “immediate bank details required”, “you’ve won a luxury trip” – anyone having a mobile phone is used to receiving a flood of such suspicious messages. Although many awareness campaigns are launched to keep the public vigilant and the police are also increasingly active in their pursuit of fraudsters, the number of fraudulent websites and the tools available to fraudsters are growing even faster. It’s difficult to prevent fraudsters from sending SMS messages to random phone numbers or e-mails with tricky content to random e-mail addresses, but with a little critical thinking and attention, you can prevent fraudulent websites from getting your details after a careless click. In this respect, the summer season is an ideal time for criminals. Just as the number of accidents increases due to lack of concentration and attention on the road, the same lack of attention makes it difficult to prevent online fraud in the prolonged summer heat. With less attention, it is easier to click on dangerous phishing links.

An effective solution to prevent fraud

There is a solution that can automatically provide up-to-date protection against phishing attempts all year round, without any user intervention. NetPajzs (NetShield), which protects Yettel’s network, blocks suspicious phishing websites before they reach mobile devices and users can open them. This is supported by a database of fraudulent websites updated every 3 to 5 minutes and a filtering system that works across the network to filter out malicious websites with high efficiency. NetPajzs has already been activated by more than 190,000 users since its launch in November.

“As mobile technology evolves at a dizzying pace, so too do the methods used by online fraudsters. They can hijack your browsers, infect your devices with viruses without your knowledge, record passwords typed on your keyboards, or track your movements using spyware. It is not just the elderly or the less tech-savvy who are at risk, but anyone who is momentarily less alert or cautious for whatever reason.  We offer a solution that is really easy to use, but at the same time provides a high level of protection for our customers browsing on our network,” said László Leskó, Senior Consultant for Digital Products at Yettel Hungary.

Once NetPajzs is activated, you don’t need to worry about updates or settings, just enjoy the protection provided by Yettel’s network. Unlike traditional antivirus solutions, NetPajzs does not drain your phone’s battery or slow down your device because it runs on the network rather than on the mobile device. It can also be used with mobilnet and Yettel’s home internet solution, and costs only HUF 390 per month after a free one-month trial. The service is constantly updated in real time by cybersecurity experts to protect against newer attack methods and platforms.
