A Yettel survey[1] on the festive habits of Hungarians shows that the majority of people still prefer to buy gifts in brick-and-mortar shops. Four out of ten respondents said they planned to buy gifts exclusively or mainly online. This proportion has remained virtually unchanged over the past four years.
More than half of the respondents consciously look for promotions and vouchers for gift purchases and try to take advantage of every such opportunity. Almost the same number of respondents consider a HUF 1,000 discount on a HUF 10,000 purchase to be a good offer. About the same number of people are also open to downloading and using smartphone apps when it comes to discounts, and four out of ten would like to buy a gift in an app.
Young people are still more open to using apps. While more people under 40 would download an app to get a discount, see and use in-app promotions, people over 40 are (still) less likely to buy Christmas gifts via an app.
To familiarise yourself with apps, download the Yettel app now, as the operator is offering a surprise discount to any existing or prospective Yettel consumer who downloads the app and subscribes to its newsletter.

[1] The survey was conducted by interviewing 1,000 people between 18 and 25 October 2023. The sample is representative of the Hungarian population aged 18-69 in terms of gender, age, region and type of settlement. (Impetus research)
