Telenor is phasing out its old, credit card-sized SIM cards used for 25 years. The more environmentally friendly, new cards arrive at shops on an ongoing basis to replace the old obsolete solution. The new SIM cards generate 50% less packaging waste due to the smaller size of the plastic piece around the cards and less packaging film.
This step makes even delivery more efficient. You can save about 15% on the delivery costs of half-size SIM cards due to the fact that smaller cards need less packaging and weigh less which reduces the amount of fuel used for their delivery.
Environmental protection has been a priority for Telenor for long years. This step is fully in line with the company’s long-term sustainability strategy. In addition to reducing its own environmental impact, Telenor also wants to contribute to mitigating the environmental burden caused by telecommunications and encourage its customers to protect the environment through simple everyday actions.
“Launching half-size SIM cards is the next step in our journey to a more sustainable future. We are implementing renewable energy-based solutions at our HQ in Törökbálint, replaced paper-based contracts with digital ones and keep increasing the ratio of e-billing customers. Anyone can return their used handsets, batteries and cables to our shops whose state-of-the-art recycling also reduces our environmental impact”, said Attila Mészáros, Corporate Communications Director of Telenor Hungary.
Telenor is committed to responsible business. Its employees want to make the benefits of ICT solutions available to everyone while doing business and making decisions in a responsible, ethical and transparent way and minimizing or offsetting potentially harmful social and environmental impact.
