Fast payment with one tap – Telenor launches wearable contactless payment solution

Telenor has added a wearable contactless payment solution to its financial services portfolio. The Wallet bracelet enables its users to pay fast with one tap at contactless POS terminals – without a smartphone, in the same way as using a PayPass bank card. The bracelet is ideal for hiking, festivals or on the beach and even for managing children’s pocket money. It can be used for online payment and is available to the customers of any mobile operator.

The operator-agnostic Wallet bracelet can be used by anyone with an Android- or iOS-based mobile device after downloading the Telenor Wallet app that includes Telenor’s financial services. The bracelet available in black or white colour can be ordered through this app which also provides the customer with a mini Mastercard® pre-paid debit card. This card needs to be inserted into the bracelet and registered in the app using the ID number on it. After this, users can top up their card any time using a Mastercard, VISA or AMEX card registered in the app.

The Wallet bracelet offers an alternative to contactless bank card or smartphone payment in a situation when it is safer and more comfortable to use a wearable device than to carry a card or a phone with you and you want to set the amount available in advance. It can be a useful option at festivals, concerts, hikes or, due to its water resistance, also on the beach. Families can use it to manage children’s pocket money and improve their financial awareness. The bracelet enables children to learn how card payment works but it can also be used for online payment with parents controlling top-ups and monitoring spending together with their child in the Telenor Wallet app.

During the launch campaign, the Wallet bracelet is available with a starting balance of HUF 2,000 available immediately upon registration. The bracelet works with any contactless POS terminal across Hungary – users only need to tap it near a POS terminal in the same way as a PayPass bank card.

Customers can use the bracelet free of charge for 3 months after registration. From the fourth month, it has a gross monthly fee of HUF 490 subtracted from the user’s account balance. The top‑up fee is 2% of the topped-up amount (but not less than HUF 200) which is also subtracted from the account balance.  Monthly transaction limit is HUF 75,000.

Tap-and-go payment has been available in the Telenor Wallet app since last year. The Telenor MobilPass service enables customers to use their NFC-enabled Android-based smartphone for payment in the same way as a bank card. With the new app, customers with other types of smartphones or preferring wearable solutions can also pay in a simple way. The app also supports one-stop access to many other payment services including mobile parking, motorway toll payment, invoice payment, topping up prepaid cards, ordering a taxi, lottery gambling and buying a ticket on jegy.hu.
