Yettel Hungary launched its first fully digital mobile subscription, Yepp, in July 2024. Its novelty is that all elements of the subscription are digital, so there is no need to go to a shop or call the customer service. Customers can sign up for the new subscription with unlimited domestic mobile internet in the Yettel mobile app in as little as 10 minutes. Initially, Yettel expected the solution to primarily serve the needs of a younger audience, who want to do their shopping and banking on their mobile phones, i.e. they prefer “anywhere, anytime, convenience” to face-to-face interaction. The statistics for the first two months of Yepp’s operation, however, proved this wrong. The service has been selected not only by younger audiences: the proportion of Yepp subscribers in the 36-55 age group was virtually the same as among 18-35 year olds. This means that while generations use the internet differently, consume and produce different content, convenient access to digital services is a universal cross-generational need.
Yettel aims to provide this convenience to all customers and in the long run. It is shifting the focus of customer service to its official mobile app, which not only offers more flexibility and convenience, but is also a perfectly secure platform for financial transactions. As confirmed by the steady increase in the number of monthly active users, this convenience is also in demand from customers.
There is more
In return for the positive reception received by Yepp, Yettel is extending the discount period, originally announced until 30 September, by one and a half months until 4 November 2024.
“There had been a lot of market research prior to the creation of Yepp, where the younger target group showed a clear openness to a fully digital subscription, and the service was designed based on that feedback. The results of the first period of our tariff reform for telecoms services has proved the forecast inaccurate. Yepp subscribers are roughly equally distributed between younger and older people. This is a surprising but welcome sign that digital maturity and openness to convenient digital processes is being embraced by a wider age group than expected. It also gives us direction on how we can further develop our services,” said Olga Safonov, Yettel’s Retail Commercial Director.
What is Yepp? Yepp is a digital mobile subscription available through the Yettel app offering unlimited domestic mobile internet and 50GB roaming in the EU and in Roaming Zone 1. It comes with an eSIM that can be requested during the order process and installed immediately or a physical SIM that is delivered in Budapest and in 4 large Hungarian cities in one hour by Wolt or the next working day nationwide by MPL. Yepp doesn’t include any airtime or text message by default. Customers can activate this option in several combinations only if needed. Similarly to streaming services, the tariff can be suspended and then reactivated any time. Yepp can be ordered at an introductory price of HUF 5,990 per month for a period extended with 1,5 months from the initial date of 30 September until 4 November 2024.
