The school year started in a traditional setting with students and teachers returning to the classroom in 2021. Nevertheless, the knowledge accumulated during lockdown education can be useful not only in the digital space. The experience gained can also be used to improve classroom-based teaching.
In 2020, the HiperSuli digital curriculum development competition was announced for teachers to share the experience accumulated during lockdown education. It aimed to help teachers navigate the maze of digital education and support them in expanding their online opportunities in collaboration, testing and knowledge sharing. The learning materials submitted were gathered in a knowledge base freely accessible to any teacher.
“There is a huge demand among teachers for knowledge sharing. We experienced that in the HiperSuli community and also last year when we launched our first pilot for the curriculum development competition that attracted nearly 200 applications covering a very wide range of topics”, said Balázs Koren, head of the HiperSuli program. “We hope to receive a large number of outstanding applications again and make this competition a tradition”.
The HiperSuli curriculum development competition launched on 28 September is open to any teacher with a higher education degree. Applications are to be submitted via https://hipersuli.hu/tanari-palyazat. When submitting an application, teachers have to indicate the topic and the age group targeted. Applications are invited for the following topics: collaboration, testing, virtual classroom, new knowledge sharing/interactive presentation. Teachers can use their existing ideas in the program, they don’t have to invent an entirely new project for the applications. Those involved in the first round of the competition can also participate but they cannot submit the same project again.
Applications are accepted until 12 p.m., 13 October 2021.
Of the submitted applications, up to 25 will be selected by a five-strong professional jury considering the feasibility of the idea. These 25 applicants will be enrolled in a training course by Webuni online education platform and receive the Hipernet access required for their work. At the training course, applicants will get help to develop a teaching video to be posted on HiperSuli’s website later. Of those preparing a published video, the jury will announce 10 winners who’ll be awarded not only Hipernet access, but also a prize of HUF 100,000.
Members of the jury: Andrea Joós, teacher of biology, host of podcast “Tanárnő, kérem!”, founder of the YouTube channel “Élménybiológia”; Katalin Kulman, lecturer of ELTE TÓK, instructor of teaching community MDOE, Ádám Bodor, Head of Webuni online education platform; Krisztina Varga, HiperSuli teacher; László Robert Zsiros, founder of videoblog “Szertár” and Balázs Koren, head of the HiperSuli program.
