Spectacular drone show brings Statue of Liberty to life in Budapest

On the evening of 11 October, the people of Budapest were treated to an extraordinary sight. Since July, the city’s iconic Statue of Liberty had been obscured by scaffolding due to renovations. However, Yettel launched a unique initiative to temporarily “resurrect” the statue through a stunning and immersive drone show, bringing the famous landmark back into view with an awe-inspiring display of lights. During the show, passers-by saw a virtual sun, formed by drones, dip beneath the water near Gellért Hill before transforming into an infinite galaxy and finally morphing into the face of the Statue of Liberty. The statue glanced around the city, gave a playful wink and then began to dance. The best place to watch and enjoy this unique spectacle was from Fővám Square, where the show was accompanied by Dávid Miller, kristoaf, Márton Lombos and Analog Balaton’s song “Felémdől”. Attendees were also able to scan a QR code projected onto the skyline for a chance to win a subscription to Yepp, Yettel’s new digital service launched this summer.

“With the launch of Yepp, we wanted to promote digital freedom and bring this message to people. That’s how we came up with the idea of bringing the Statue of Liberty to life, using digital tools to make the scaffolded icon dance and bring joy to thousands of people. Based on audience feedback, we believe we have succeeded in making the experience of unlimited digital freedom even more tangible by allowing this iconic statue to transcend its limits,” said András Kovács, Yettel’s Director of Brand and Marketing Communications.

The spectacular and unique show was created using Visual Europe Group’s world-class fleet of drones. The “dance” sequence, which lasted approximately 7.5 minutes, involved the coordinated movements of 405 new-generation Kaiken drones.

“More than 15 people worked to create a unique experience for Friday’s audience. It was a special challenge to stage the show around the Statue of Liberty, above Gellért Hill, and to ensure that the fleet of drones, the animation and the music remained in perfect harmony,” said Áron Pető, lead pilot of the drone show.
