Schools get digital devices worth HUF 10 million

Digital Springboard program for the institutions of underprivileged regions is closed

A joint program by Telenor Hipersuli and the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid provided educational devices to schools in Baranya, Békés, Hajdú-Bihar, Somogy and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties. Under the program launched to help bridge the digital divide, tablets and laptops were donated to the schools of five underprivileged communities. HiperSuli now supports digital education in 101 schools across the country.

Telenor’s digital education program HiperSuli and the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid completed the second round of their Digital Springboard initiative launched with a HUF 10 million budget. The program targeting schools with higher grades and located in communities disadvantaged from social, economic and infrastructure aspects or hardly hit by unemployment attracted several dozens of applications.

The five selected winners – Serbian Bilingual Primary School and Kindergarten of Battonya, District Primary School of Iharosberény, Sinay Miklós Member-school of Irinyi József Primary School of Hosszúpályi, Palásti László Primary School and Kindergarten in Magy and the Nagyharsány Primary School of the Reformed High School of Pécs – were donated educational digital devices at a value of HUF 2 million each. As a result, the  schools can add about 40 laptops and tablets to their digital device pool supporting teacher’s activities. In addition, teachers of the winning institutions will be enrolled in HiperSuli’s 30-hour accredited training on the use of the donated devices and digital education methods.

Selection criteria included local disadvantages of the applicants’ communities, compliance with social and professional requirements, current availability of digital devices and the number of disadvantaged pupils.

“We are pleased that the second round of our digital program announced with the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid attracted so much interest and was such a great success”, said Attila Mészáros, Corporate Communications Director of Telenor. “We received diverse applications both in terms of regions and applicants. Based on the number of applications submitted, we saw an especially high demand for devices in select schools of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties.”

Telenor’s digital education program Hipersuli has been an enabler of digitisation at educational institutions since 2015. Now running in 101 schools across the country, the program supports teachers open to digital innovation, builds a teaching community and enhances the quality of classes with connected devices. Leveraging the experience accumulated over the years, the program also launched a training course accredited by the Ministry of Human Resources that is available to every teacher free of charge, also in an online format. In line with the requirements of the age, the project’s curriculum also includes the subject of robotics encouraging students to develop algorithmic thinking. In addition to the digital education of teachers, the program also promotes safe and responsible internet use by children and their parents.
