Telenor digital education program Hipersuli partners with hospital school program KórházSuli – Children in long-term hospital care access learning content through Hipernet

There are several thousand permanently hospitalized children in Hungary who cannot participate in traditional education. Partnership between Telenor and hospital school program KórházSuli can bring about a positive change in their lives as well as in the work of hospital teachers.

Telenor launched its digital education program Hipersuli in May this year. The telecommunications company has provided digital devices, tablets and Hipernet as well as Microsoft education apps to enrich the education experience for 360 children and their teachers in 11 classes of 5 primary schools. The Hipersuli classroom project has been a great success with positive feedback from children and teachers alike. In addition to the classroom initiative, the Hipersuli program keeps seeking new ways for using digital education solutions to enhance the efficiency and expand the opportunities of education.

KórházSuli is a voluntary initiative launched a year ago to facilitate the education of children in long‑term hospital care with technology solutions and personalized learning content. As part of this program, school teachers can use tablets and mobile internet at the bedside of young patients. This way, children can learn from resources tailored to their needs on a special interface developed for the KórházSuli program. The further development of the program was preceded by thorough testing. The partnership with Hipersuli has led to a breakthrough enabling the broader adoption of the hospital school program.

KórházSuli’s digital learning materials are created by volunteer students and reviewed by volunteer teachers on E-StudyGroup, a special user-friendly online interface. Every piece of material is tailored to the individual needs of ill children but its chapters can be subsequently reused to support children with similar needs. To boost the growth of KórházSuli’s knowledge base, Hipersuli operator Telenor and the content developers of the KórházSuli program are announcing a development contest for secondary school students. The winners of the contest will be rewarded with prizes including 10 hybrid tablets, 1-year unlimited Hipernet access and valuable Telenor gift packages. “KórházSuli and Telenor’s Hipersuli have similar goals. They both want to use state-of-the-art digital learning materials and mobile devices to support students’ growth, be them in any part of the country within or outside schools. To achieve that, a lot of people need to make concerted effort. Hospital teachers, students developing the digital curriculum and their teachers have all made superhuman efforts. Telenor provides teachers using the KórházSuli system with unlimited Hipernet access and leverages mobile technology to change the static nature of education and enable the program’s rapid expansion”, said Christopher Laska, CEO of Telenor Hungary.
