Dávid Miller: It’s an uplifting experience to help

The more people do good, the better Christmas will be

Headphones, clothing and perfumes: this year, 1,200 children’s wishes have been fulilled by Yettel in its Christmas campaign with Hungarian Baptist Aid. In the experience of the aid service, young people aged 13-18 are the least likely to receive donations, even though this age group is in particular need of reinforcement and support.

In twenty Yettel shops across the country, the mobile operator’s customers found Christmas decorations with a QR code containing a teenager’s story and wish. The gifts were provided by Yettel and Hungarian Baptist Aid, and actor-singer Dávid Miller was happy to help distribute them: “Since I was a child, helping others has been a model of behaviour for me. All in all, I had a very good year, with many positive memories, and now I can say goodbye to 2024 not only having received good experiences but also having given them”.

Dávid Miller’s charity work is usually not organised by others, but is done on his own initiative. On several occasions he has visited children in vulnerable situations and children in family protection programs, collecting and delivering presents and even singing Christmas carols for them.

“It's terrible to see poverty at all ages, but children are the most helpless. Their bitterness and pain touches me the most. It can be a heartbreaking experience, but it can also be uplifting if you can help. We are particularly sensitive to this at Christmas”, added Dávid Miller. “When I am decorating the Christmas tree, I often think about how lucky I am and how grateful I should be for my situation, because some people do not only lack Christmas lights, but even electricity".

Donate easily

Since 2004, Hungarian Baptist Aid has been organising its Shoebox Campaign in which donors’ gifts are distributed to needy children who may not have anything else under the Christmas tree. The initiative is a great opportunity for many people to help provide Christmas presents for a large number of children.

“It's a basic misconception that teenagers are hard to please and less in need of surprises and Christmas gifts,” said Dávid Gál, Executive Director of Hungarian Baptist Aid. “Gifts for girls such as perfume, make-up, sweets, hats, scarves, gloves, jewellery or simple electronic gadgets – a small speaker or headphones – can bring real happiness. For boys, there is also a huge demand for music gadgets, perfumes, clothes and sweets.”

The donation process can seem complicated, but it’s easier than you think. With just a few clicks you can support a good cause and make someone’s Christmas brighter. If you join an initiative where you can track your donation, you won’t have to worry about whether your gift is going to the right place. And if you want to make a charitable donation later, most foundations have a predefined list of causes they support.
