High-volume usage

What is high-volume usage?

High-volume usage is a process defined by the Act on Electronic Communications, pursuant to which you can use your subscription up to the high-volume usage cap amount or data volume specified in the respective General Terms of Contract. You will be notified about what to do before, and also upon reaching the cap or data-volume limit.

High-volume usage – Cap

During the 1st to 6th months after the contract is signed, the limit for post-paid customers holding a maximum of 50 subscriptions subject to the retail (i.e. for individuals and companies/other entities requesting B2C treatment) and small business offer comes to:

  • HUF 16,500/phone number for residential subscribers,
  • HUF 11,500/phone number with a small business subscription.

Starting with Month 7 after signing the contract, the limit is calculated on the basis of the highest billed value of the respective phone number from the previous 6 months, but will be a minimum of HUF 25,400 per number.

It is possible to conclude an individual limit agreement – see “How can I request a limit increase” section below – but unfortunately there is no way to reduce the high-volume usage limit.

Should you reach 80% of the high-volume usage limit amount, you will be sent notification in a free text message, and if you reach 100% of the limit, your usage will be limited.

Limiting usage means that you can only receive voice calls, text and multi-media messages, as well as reach our Call Centre at 1220 or emergency numbers (e.g. 107 for the police) while you are in Hungary, but you will not receive voice calls or text messages when you are abroad.

You can ask us to lift the limitation

  • by paying a deposit
  • or if you pay the amount of the invoice subject to high-volume usage.

If you receive a high-volume usage notification by text, the easiest way to settle the deposit indicated in the SMS is to visit one of our points of sale in person.

Having a high-volume usage limit is also in your interest, because, for instance, it prevents you from receiving a bill of even HUF 100,000 if your device is stolen or lost and you only realise this later.

How can I request a limit increase?

Subject to meeting certain conditions, you have the option to request a temporary limit increase for your current billing cycle, and even a permanent limit increase from when your next invoice is closed, by calling our customer service hotline (1220). A limit increase can be requested in both active and limited status.

What should I do if I receive an SMS alert for high-volume usage?

You can receive a text message alert for high-volume usage in the following situations:

  1. When reaching 80% of the high-volume usage cap amount for your subscription.
  2. If your usage reaches 100% of the high traffic limit, we are obliged under the Act on Electronic Communications to limit your outgoing traffic.

In the 1st case, you have the following options:

  • Paying the requested deposit; that way we will not limit your usage.
  • Not paying any deposit, so once you reach 100% of your limit your outgoing usage will be limited.
  • Not paying any deposit and not reaching 100% of your limit; that way we will not limit your usage.
  • Requesting a limit increase subject to meeting certain conditions.

Further to the Act on Electronic Communications, we are obliged to limit your usage once 100% of the high-volume usage cap amount for your subscription is reached. In that case, you will have the following options:

  • Paying the requested deposit, so we can release your limitation.
  • Not paying the requested deposit, but instead waiting until your invoice containing high-volume usage is ready, meaning that your subscription will remain limited until the invoice is paid.
  • Requesting a limit increase subject to meeting certain conditions.

What do I need to do once I have settled the high-volume usage deposit/invoice?

As soon as you have paid your high-volume usage deposit or the invoice containing high-volume usage, call our customer service hotline and the limitation will be released within 72 hours.

High-volume usage – Data limit

Yettel sets data limits for certain rate plans and services. Should you reach 80% of the data limit linked to the given rate plan or service, you will be notified in a free text message, and if you reach 100%, your usage will be limited.

Usage throttling applicable to data volume means that, for as long that is active, your internet access speed will be slowed down in line with the description associated with the respective rate plans and services. Limitation (throttling) will last until the end of the invoicing cycle.

The high-volume usage data limit is in your interest, because it lets you know where you stand with your data usage.

What should I do if I receive an SMS alert for high-volume data limitation?

You can receive a text message alert for high-volume usage as follows:

  1. When reaching 80% of the high-volume usage data limit for your subscription.
  2. If your usage reaches 100% of the high-volume usage data limit, we are obliged under the Act on Electronic Communications to limit your outgoing traffic.

In the 1st case, you have the following options:

  • You can order additional services containing data, so your data traffic will not be throttled.
  • You do not order an additional service containing data, so if you reach 100% of the limit, we will slow down your internet access speed.
  • You do not order an additional service containing data and do not reach 100% of the limit, so we throttle your internet access.

Further to the Act on Electronic Communications, we are obliged to limit your usage once 100% of the high-volume usage data limit for your subscription is reached (throttling). In that case, you will have the following options:

  • You can order additional services containing a data allowance, and once activated, the limitation will be released.
  • Not ordering an additional service containing a data allowance, but instead waiting until your billing cycle completes, and your subscription will remain limited until then.
